Wild about Dark Skies Festival 28 October- 10 November 2024

Did you know the High Weald National Landscape has some of the darkest skies in the South East?

Dallington will be joining in with this year’s Wild About Dark Skies Festival which runs from Monday 28 October to Sunday 10 November. As well as celebrating the High Weald’s dark skies, the Festival will raise awareness about the negative impacts of light pollution – on wildlife, climate change and our own wellbeing – and suggest some small, simple lifestyle changes to help reduce it on your own doorstep.

You can find out more about the Festival at the High Weald website (link below) and we’ll be posting news here on the Dallington website about what’s happening in Dallington  as plans develop. So far, we have plans for a star gazing talk  from Doug Edworthy on Saturday 2nd November (time and venue tbc) and a bat walk (date tbc). Dallington Primary School will be incorporating learning about Dark Skies into next term’s curriculum, and joining in with a childrens’ creative writing competition on the theme, sponsored by The Messenger Magazine. The competition will be open to children aged 5-11 from the four villages served by the Messenger – full details will be published shortly.    Please get in touch if you have other suggestions or would like to be involved in any way.

Meanwhile this page will house useful resources and links to help you and your family think about how to safeguard and celebrate Dallington’s wonderful dark skies.
