Make your Mark Event Saturday 17th October 2026

Make your Mark on the Sugar Loaf Field!
Saturday 17th October 11am – 4pm

view of field

Every October, the Campaign for Drawing organise a national Big Draw Festival to encourage more people to enjoy being creative.

This year’s theme is Make a Mark and we thought this would be an ideal opportunity to invite Dallington residents of all ages to visit the Recreation Ground (also known as the Sugar Loaf Field) to have some fun and think about how you would like to make more use of the field and pavilion.

The pavilion will be open  all day from 11am – 4pm  with a range of resources and activities for adults and children, including hedgerow collages and prints, landscape pictures, and lots of other ways to make your mark to communicate the improvements you’d like to see on the field.

We are so lucky to have this community resource but it needs to be more widely known and used.  Its height above sea level makes it ideal for stargazing and radio activities as well as offering wonderful views towards the coast. It has good car parking and a hedge all the way round ( ideal for blackberry picking and nature trails) and a large field for all kinds of games. More information at https://www.dallingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk/local-information/recreation-ground-sugar-loaf-field/

Refreshments will be available and if the weather is good you are very welcome to bring a picnic. We hope to see you there.

Dark Skies over Dallington

Photo of Milky War in night skyHave you seen the Milky Way in the night sky above Dallington?

Will it still be possible to show your grandchildren the Milky Way in a decade’s time?

We’ve some of the darkest skies in Sussex – we ought to celebrate them and ensure we keep them into the future. On Saturday October 24th from 2:00 to 4:30 pm  with the support of Dallington Parish Council and High Weald National Landscape, we’re holding a family-friendly Dark Skies afternoon at Dallington Village Hall for all residents.

Come along and learn how our dark skies are under threat, how this affects more than just our views of the stars, and how managing the threats can bring both health and commercial benefits.

David Field of the High Weald Dark Sky Community, Tree Warden Doug Edworthy, and volunteers from nearby villages will be on hand to explain how High Weald parishes are becoming certified as Dark Sky Communities and inviting Dallington to become one too.

Come along, have some refreshments and chat with like-minded people who value our dark skies and find out what you can do to keep our skies starry.

National Village Halls Week March 16th – 22nd

During the Library Café on Monday March 16th, we will use our newly acquired laptop (see below) to address the theme of this year’s Village Halls Week, “Connecting Communities to Health & Wellbeing”.  Anna Dolphin from AbilityNet will join us again to show how to access and use the NHS app as well as other sources of reliable health information.

Old School: New Tech!
We are delighted to announce that following a successful bid to the Parish Council, the hall has received funding to purchase a new  laptop with essential software and lockable mobile storage to allow us to establish a permanent secure workstation in the hall. This setup will be available during Library Café opening hours for anyone wanting a bit of help to access the internet, particularly for health and government websites but also for general digital skill sharing.

We hope the new equipment will also help to revive the Local History group, enabling occasional illustrated talks and monthly meetings  for anyone wanting to access online resources to research family or local history and contribute to the Dallington History website https://dallingtonhistory.uk/.

Please get in touch with Pauline at dallingtonoldschool@gmail.com or 07702 104392 if you would be interested in any of these possibilities.
